How to make the antenna reflector?
For earth station antenna with high gain, the bigger reflector diameter, the higher the frequency so the RMS requirements is higher. The gain loss caused by antenna surface accuracy(RMS) error is related to the surface tolerance ε and the operating wave length λ. For instance, if the surface tolerance of antenna ε=0.5mm and antenna operational frequency is 4GHz and 12GHz, the gain loss caused by the antenna surface tolerance are respectively 0.03dB and 0.27dB. Obviously, the higher operating frequency the antenna, the higher surface accuracy requirement the reflector. Otherwise, it will cause the gain loss too much and affect the antenna overall efficiency and G/T value. Therefore, it is significant to improve the working accuracy and surface quality of reflector.

Step 1: Purchase Antenna reflector material: Aluminum plate
Step 2: Stretch the aluminum plate
Step 3: Purchase sectional material, which is used for stretching ribs
Step 4: Stretch the ribs
Stretching sectional material to make it as antenna rib plate
Stretching mold for different reflector rib plate, normally for one antenna it has several stretching mold, and also for different antenna, the stretching molds are also different
Step 5: Assemble the ribs together and reflector
Assembled the ribs and reflector and Finished assembled antenna reflector
Step 6: Producing the back structure
Pipe-bending machine, which is used to make the pipe bending as required. After bending the pipe, weld these pipes together as back structure.

Step 7: Assemble the reflector and back structure on the mold to do the initial course assemble
The aligning pin has been increased during the manufacture process of reflector and back structure to improve the reflector assemble accuracy.
Step 8: Surface accuracy measurement after reflector assemble
The surface accuracy measurement result of 9m reflector after assemble is σ=0.39mm
The surface accuracy measurement result of 9m sub-reflector after assemble is σ=0.121mm
The process above is the whole process of manufacture, machine and test for antesky antenna reflector. The higher frequency the antenna during antenna reflector design, the smaller the root-mean-square error, and general requirements of reflector surface root-mean-square error is 1/30 to 1/60 of antenna operating wavelength. During engineering practice, large-medium sized reflector can reach a fraction of a millimeter accuracy of single panel. For example, C-band generally takes 0.5 mm, Ku band takes 0.3 mm and Ka band takes 0.15 mm.
